“Every man needs a woman when his life is a mess, because just like the game of chess – the queen protects the king”

On March 8th, people in Ukraine/Russia celebrate International Women’s Day. On this day, all women are congratulated for all their hard work, and usually receive cards, flowers, gifts, and even young girls receive presents. This day is designed specifically to please mothers, sisters, grandmothers, friends and teachers.

The most important part of this celebration is make women experience a perfect day. For example, girls and women don’t receive homework and are not obligated to do any labor. After the holidays, women, especially mothers, are loaded with more work than usual, having to prepare dinner and host guests. This day is purposefully in March, after the holiday season, to allow mothers to relax and be supported by her family. Even better, gifts to these women have to be personal and are greatly appreciated when made by hand. However, the main objective of the day is to shower our lovely women with love!

The holiday on the 8th March has an interesting history. International women’s Day appeared early in the 20th century, when women fought for their rights as a whole, making it an extremely important day to remember. It is a day to remember all the things that the women in our life have done and sacrificed for the people that they love. However, we must keep in mind that we have to acknowledge these deeds not only on the 8th of March, but every day.

In 1910, Copenhagen hosted the 2nd International Conference of working women. The leader of the women’s group of the Social Democratic Party of Germany was Clara Zetkin and she was the one who proposed the idea of celebrating International Women’s Day. She suggested that Women’s Day was held annually in every country on the same day. The purpose of this holiday is, as Zetkin said, for “women fighting for their rights”.

It is interesting that the idea of International Women’s Day originated in the early 20th century, which was when the industrialized world experienced a period of expansion and turbulence.

Often, women work alongside men in factories, in offices, kitchen, gardens. Mothers raise children, lead the economy, cook for their families, and wash and clean. Girls are attracted by their beauty and charm. They make this world joyful. Many women are creative: they sing, dance and bless the world in an infinite amount of ways. Ultimately, women make the world a better place, and they surely do deserve this wonderful day to receive thanks for their contributions to the world.
